Let it go, take a breath.

Individual therapy for adults in the state of California. (online and in-person)

Do you struggle with speaking up for yourself and your needs? Maybe you feel like your needs don’t matter as much as other people’s do. You put other people’s needs first but then don’t take care of yourself, and resentment builds. EMDR and somatic therapy can help you find your voice and improve your relationships.

Maybe you experienced a traumatic event (like violence) and now have a hard time feeling safe in the world. You feel like you’ve moved on from the event but your body hasn’t. You know intellectually that you’re safe now, but your body still tenses up in certain situations or you feel on edge or like you’re always looking over your shoulder. EMDR and somatic therapy can help your body to let go of these extreme responses when they no longer serve you.

Beliefs like “I’m not good enough”, or “I don’t belong”, or “I can’t trust anyone” don’t have to rule your life. EMDR and somatic therapy can help take the power out of negative beliefs we have about ourselves.

In therapy, we can work together to identify where these beliefs came from, figure out what the truth actually is, and instill accurate beliefs that can help you to live a more confident, grounded and peaceful life moving forward.

My name is Sarah Brekke-Velazquez (She/her), Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I am trained in EMDR and Hakomi Mindful Somatic therapy. I specialize in working with people who are in transitional stages of life (getting serious in a relationship, thinking about/transitioning to parenthood) and folks who have experienced trauma. It has been a lifelong learning process for me to learn how to find my own voice and connect to my body, and I love using EMDR and mindfulness and somatic techniques to help others to do the same.
